About the Month of November
November is the most logistically demanding month on the American calendar. Thanksgiving anchors a travel week that affects nearly every household and workplace, the retail year peaks the day after, and the clocks change at the start of the month. Very little of it works without planning.
November carries two federal holidays: Veterans Day on the 11th and Thanksgiving Day on the fourth Thursday. Black Friday follows immediately, Daylight Saving Time ends on the first Sunday, and in even-numbered years Election Day falls on the Tuesday after the first Monday.

Where the Name "November" Comes From
From the Latin novem, meaning nine, a leftover from the original ten-month Roman calendar.
The Roman calendar originally ran for ten months beginning in March, which is why the last four month names
still carry the Latin numbers seven through ten even though they now sit in positions nine through twelve. That
two-month offset is one of the oldest quirks still built into the calendar on your wall.

The weekday the 1st falls on changes every year, which is why a calendar printed for one year cannot be

Because the pattern shifts by one weekday each year (two after a leap year), the same month only repeats its

How to Plan a Productive November
Treat Thanksgiving as a week, not a day
Travel, hosting, shopping and school closures spread across five days. Blocking the full week on a printed calendar is the only realistic way to see what is actually available.
Book travel unusually early
The Wednesday before Thanksgiving is consistently among the busiest travel days of the American year. Decisions made in early November cost meaningfully less than decisions made in late November.
Close out the year's deadlines
Anything due in December is effectively due in early December once holidays are removed. November is where those deadlines need to be pulled forward and scheduled.
