About the Month of April
April is a planning-heavy month in the United States because the federal tax deadline sits in the middle of it. Add spring break travel, the start of outdoor sports seasons and Easter in most years, and April typically holds more moving parts than the months on either side of it.
April opens with April Fools' Day, carries Tax Day on the 15th, and celebrates Earth Day on the 22nd. Easter Sunday falls in April in most years, bringing Good Friday and school holidays with it, though the date moves annually because it is tied to the lunar calendar.

Where the Name "April" Comes From
Most likely from the Latin aperire, meaning "to open", a reference to buds and blossoms opening in spring.
The Roman calendar originally ran for ten months beginning in March, which is why the last four month names
still carry the Latin numbers seven through ten even though they now sit in positions nine through twelve. That
two-month offset is one of the oldest quirks still built into the calendar on your wall.
What Day Does April Start On?
The weekday the 1st falls on changes every year, which is why a calendar printed for one year cannot be
reused for the next. Here is how April lines up across nearby years.
| Year | April 1 falls on | Days in April | Working days |
| 2025 | Tuesday | 30 | 22 |
| 2026 | Wednesday | 30 | 22 |
| 2027 | Thursday | 30 | 22 |
| 2028 | Saturday | 30 | 20 |
| 2029 | Sunday | 30 | 21 |
| 2030 | Monday | 30 | 22 |
Because the pattern shifts by one weekday each year (two after a leap year), the same month only repeats its
exact layout every six or eleven years.
How to Plan a Productive April
Work backwards from Tax Day
April 15 is a hard deadline, not a target. Place document gathering two weeks earlier and the actual filing session at least three days before the date so a missing form does not become an emergency.
Block spring break before it blocks you
School breaks vary by district and rarely align with a parent's work calendar. Marking the exact days as soon as the district publishes them prevents the scramble for coverage.
Use longer evenings for recurring tasks
With sunset moving later, April is the easiest month to establish an after-work routine — a weekly walk, a garden hour, a language lesson. Recurring commitments started in April tend to survive the summer.
